What Is The Best Type Of Commercial Roof Membrane?
We often get the question of which roof membrane is the best from our commercial clients. We believe that TPO and PVC are the best options currently available due to their chemical resistance and fully bonded seams.
Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are two different types of single-ply membranes that are commonly used on low-slope and flat commercial roofing systems. They are both types of thermoplastics, and offer many of the same positive characteristics: durability, strength, and wind resistance. Each, however, has other pros and cons that should be taken into consideration when planning your commercial roofing project.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
PVC roofing has been a very popular choice within the construction industry for over 30 years. It is very durable, is more flexible which makes it easier to install, is highly resistant to chemicals, and more resistant to punctures and weathering. On the other hand, the durability usually equates to higher up-front material costs, and it has a higher environmental impact.
TPO roofing, on the other hand, is a newer material for the commercial roofing market. Its reflective surface means it reduces UV radiation, which means it can decrease heating and cooling bills, and it is also totally recyclable. On the other hand, it is not quite as resistant to harsh chemicals as PVC, and it can be more difficult to install due to the stiffness of the material.
No matter which product you choose, you can trust that Avondale Roofing has the expertise to install both to manufacturer’s specifications. We can help guide you on the pros and cons of PVC or TPO to decide which material is right for your needs, and get your new commercial roof installed as efficiently as possible.
